A cultural arts collaboration between Steaphan Paton and myself that ensured the passing on of traditional Gunai/Kurnai Aboriginal canoe building knowledge from a lead elder (Uncle Albert Mullett) to young generations of Aboriginal men in his family. The project received an arts grant from the City of Melbourne and was acquired by Bunjilaka, the Melbourne Museum’s Aboriginal Cultural Centre in 2012. Boorun’s Canoe was selected to exhibit as the major NAIDOC exhibition (see opening night photos) in Bunjilaka’s ‘Birrarung Gallery’ (pictured right) and will go on permanent display in the museum starting 2013.
